How to write a service page that ranks

October 16, 20262 min read

A service page is a page about one job you do, such as “flat roof repairs” or “emergency boiler repair”. Done well, it brings in customers who are already looking for exactly that.

One page, one service

Give each service its own page rather than a long list on one page. Someone searching for “bathroom fitter” wants to read about bathrooms, not a general page about everything you do. See one page per service.

Start with the words customers use

Put the service and your area in the page title and the main heading, in plain words: “Flat roof repairs in Liverpool”. Use the terms customers type, not trade jargon. If you are unsure, look at how customers describe the problem when they ring you.

Say what you do and what happens

Cover the basics in the first screen: what the job is, where you work and how to get in touch. Then explain the process in a few short steps, from first call to finished job. People like to know what to expect.

Answer the questions people ask

Add a short list of questions you hear all the time: how long it takes, whether you tidy up, whether you give a written quote, how you handle surprises. These help real customers and often match what people search for.

Show proof

Add photos of your own work, a line or two about a recent job and your accreditations and insurance. See trust signals.

Be honest about price

You do not need an exact price, but a “from” price or a range helps people decide whether to ring. See pricing pages and from prices.

Make the next step obvious

Put your phone number and a short enquiry form on the page, and repeat the call to action at the end. On a phone, the number should be tap-to-call.

Check the basics

  • One main heading, then clear sub-headings.
  • A page title of about 55 to 60 characters and a description of about 150 characters.
  • Links to your other relevant services and area pages.
  • Fast loading photos. See website speed.

Write for the customer with the problem, not for Google. If the page helps them, it helps your rankings too.
