Lots of tradespeople have a website with one page called “Services”. It lists everything: roofing, guttering, chimneys, fascias, flat roofs. A paragraph each, if that.
It looks tidy. It is also the reason the site is almost invisible on Google.
How people actually search
Nobody searches for “building services”. They search for:
- “flat roof repair”
- “boiler service near me”
- “fitted wardrobes”
- “driveway resin”
- “rewire a house”
Each of those is a different search, and Google wants to send people to the page that answers it best. A single page that mentions fifteen things cannot be the best answer to any of them.
The fix is simple
Give each important service its own page. On each page:
- Say clearly what the service is and who it is for
- Explain how you do it in plain English
- Show photos of your own work
- Mention the areas you cover
- Answer the questions customers always ask
- Finish with a clear way to get in touch
That page can now rank for that search, and the person who lands on it sees exactly what they were looking for.
Why customers like it too
Visitors do not want to hunt. Someone with a leaking flat roof wants to see flat roofs, not a wall of text about everything you do. A dedicated page tells them straight away that you handle their problem.
How many pages is enough?
Start with the work you most want. If you are a roofer, that is probably repairs, new roofs, flat roofs and emergency leaks. If you are a plumber, it could be bathrooms, boilers, leaks and heating. You can always add more.
We build trade sites with a page for each of your main services as standard. Have a look at how that works for roofers, plumbers and builders.
If you want to be found for a service, that service needs its own page.
Do not copy and paste
Resist the temptation to copy the same text onto every page and swap one word. Google spots it and customers find it dull. Each page should say something genuinely useful about that job. If you would like help writing them, that is part of what we do. See the offer.
