Area pages: how to show up in every town you cover

October 20, 20262 min read

You cover a patch. Maybe it is ten towns, maybe it is a whole county. But your website probably says “serving the local area” and leaves it at that.

Google cannot read minds. If someone in a town you cover searches for your trade there, Google looks for pages that mention that town. If yours does not, it will show someone else’s.

How area pages work

An area page is a page about your trade in one particular place. For example: “Roofers in Widnes” or “Electrician in Chester”. It tells the reader, and Google, that you work there.

A good area page includes:

  • A clear heading with the trade and the town
  • A short intro about the work you do in that area
  • The main services you offer there
  • Photos from jobs in or near that town, if you have them
  • A mention of nearby streets, estates or landmarks where it feels natural
  • A clear way to get in touch

What makes a bad area page

The worst version is the same page repeated forty times with the town name swapped. It looks lazy, it reads badly, and Google tends to ignore it. Each page needs something specific to that place, even if it is only a line about the sort of homes there and the jobs you usually do.

Pick your main areas first

You do not need a page for every village. Start with the towns where you get most work or where you want more. Add the next ring outwards later. Quality beats quantity.

Combine area pages with service pages

The strongest setup is service pages and area pages working together. A “Roofers in Warrington” page can link to your flat roof and repair pages, and those pages can mention the areas you cover. This is the structure we build into every site. You can see it on our roofer and electrician pages.

People search where they live. Make sure your site has a page that speaks to each place you want work from.

Keep them honest

Only list towns where you genuinely work. Customers notice, and so does Google. If you would like a site with proper area pages built in, get in touch and we will talk through your patch.
